I love my cats but I'm covered in cat-fur 24/7. Recently I accidently discovered that a wrung out wash cloth can be a girl's best friend - I soak a wash-cloth in warm water, wring it out until it's barely moist, then gently run it over kitty, working my way from her head to her tail. She thinks I'm petting her, and the fur that would've ended on my work clothes doesn't! Any other tips?

Re: The fur-covered blues
Fri, April 9, 2004 - 12:24 PMOne thing I do is feed my pets a higher quality food. It makes their coats shinier and in my cats case they actually poop less. Something about the better the food, the more nutrients are absorbed into the body and less waste is produced. Woo hoo! Less poop is always good.
We also have furniture that is microsuede.(see tribe pics). IT ROCKS. With a dog and 2 cats it has become the miracle fabric in our house. You just wipe it clean with a damp rag. Dirty paw prints...GONE. Pet hair...GONE.
Other tips:
Comb daily, get a highpowered vaccuum, and start wearing more leather and vinyl(hot cha cha)? -

Re: The fur-covered blues
Sat, May 8, 2004 - 7:11 AMI'm with you on the notion of feeding quality food, Tracey. We have a fawn pug who started to shed wayy less when we switched from a general brand to a more organic one. He sheds a little bit more than the cat (who just loooves to cuddle and fall asleep on my lap regardless of my liking to wear black most of the time). As a rule, I comb the pug's coat twice a week or so and bathe him every Saturday.
Thankfully, we have tile instead of carpet in the house so, vaccuuming the house once a week gets it rid of any random fur balls from either pet.
Other than that, we do the whole rolling of sticky tape over the sofas a couple of times a week.

Sat, May 8, 2004 - 8:42 AMI love that your cat's name is Manic. That's hysterical. I love when my kitties have their little kitty freak out. Esp. Bella. She runs and runs from one end of the house with this crazed look in her eyes. Then she will wrestle with any throw rug in the house. She throws down with those rugs! It's go time, but at the drop of a hat, she'll either stop suddenly to groom or to take a nap. Cats are hilarious.
Dogs are pretty funny too.

Fri, April 9, 2004 - 12:28 PMCin,
I was just looking at your pics and it seems you have the same cat equation as I do.
One tabby + one tuxedo = super kitty love. -

Fri, April 9, 2004 - 1:27 PMMy husband and I have a leather couch and chair and we LOVE it. Never have to vacuum them again and stains.. what stains? We've got two male cats that have started to shed their winter coats like crazy. I spend about 10 minutes a day brushing each of them and it's still not stopping. But we love the fuzzy little buggers.

Re: The fur-covered blues
Sat, May 8, 2004 - 1:47 PMI'm against the use of leather as well, but i will attest to the magic that is Microfiber (or microsuede as it was referred to previously). We have two couches in the front room with that material, and our two dogs love to jump all over them to bark at all the pesky people walking around out front. But once it gets dirty you just have to take a damp sponge and wipe it all off. Its never been easier. Its a far better material than leather (which can stain easily from liquids) and nothing has to die in the process. -

Re: The fur-covered blues
Sat, May 8, 2004 - 4:34 PMI like the idea of microfibre more than that of leather - little cate claws can do some nasty damage! Do you know who makes this micro fibre? It might be more economical for me to get couch & chair covers made. -

Re: The fur-covered blues
Sat, May 8, 2004 - 7:34 PMI'm not certain who makes it. we bought ours at American Furniture Warehouse. I tried doing a search for microfiber and it came up with all sorts of things. So try that and browse, or just ask at a furniture store. Great stuff though. -

Re: The fur-covered blues
Mon, May 10, 2004 - 4:32 PMI can't feed my dog the high quality foods, though it was recommended to me to reduce the pet hair (he is a dalmatian---otherwise known as a shedmonster). You see, unfortunately he also has this flatulence issue, which is remedied by feeding him the cheapest, most generic food I can find. This is, I have discovered through much experimentation, the ONLY solution to his toxic gaseousness. So, I sneeze a lot. I love my dog, I swear. Can I wash him in nair? Would that be bad of me? ;)
And though I love dead cow, it's an uncomfortable seat in my opinion.....too sticky.
