Did someone here already had to choose between allergical (or clean maniac)friend and hairy animal ?

Well I have not had to choose but I have definitely dated men that were very anal-retentive about cleanliness, etc. Those relationships were over before they ever began because if you are that much of a neat-nick you are probably not an animal person and that would put you out of any category of people I would want to date.

Now if someone were genuinely allergic I would really hate to give up my animals. I honestly do not know what I would do. Are you in this situation?

No, I have a bf almost worst than me with animals...
but as it is spring, and i see how is the carpets, and I hate to use the vacuum cleaner (yes, you can call me lazy) thanks to dog, cat and ferret (the triotns are innocents on that one), i was wondering how people do in that case....

We just have one friend who is a bit allergic to cat, but he loves them, so we give him anti istaminic pill when he come here :)

welll....hard to say. dated a guy who was extremely allergic. long distance relationship, he'd come to see me, want to stay at my place, but would be sick the entire time. his allergies were not the deciding factor in ending the relationship.

i've had my pets longer than most boyfriends, so the pets stay. and i tend to make it clear that i have pets, and they are my babies, so any super allergic types don't have a chance.

i adopted my pets as babies, and they are my responsibility, until the end. i wouldn't dream of giving them up for a relationship with someone who is allergic. i will always have animal companions, so i need to be with someone who isn't allergic.

I'm afraid that people that can't handle the hair don't last long or don't get invited over. I have a few relatives that are very allergic. I love them dearly so I am always careful to put on a clean shirt when I go over so I can hug them (the little girl). It does get tiresome though that I never get to have them over here. But then again, their fridge has more food in it than mine does!

I have two longhairs. I have one friend who can't even step foot in my house, one who can't sleep over, and two that I have allegy medication on hand for when they visit. My cats are shelter cats and I made a commitment to them so getting rid of them isn't an option. I always make sure to ask new friends if they're allergic before having them over. I probably couldn't date someone who was really allergic, I guess, but I haven't encountered that yet.
