I love summer and I love my husky/sheppard mix but I think I could have built three other dogs from the under coat coming off of her. It still hasn't stopped. I think I should keep it make mittens out of it for the winter. Any takers? ;)

Re: Does it ever stop?
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 4:27 PMYes! Even though we here in SoCal don't get too cold...mittens would go nicely with the sweater I'll make from my cats' furbies.
:-P.
This *could* be a business, you know.... -

Re: Does it ever stop?
Sat, June 12, 2004 - 5:35 AMHey Lance, I feel you. We have a Husky/Malamute mix and he is still shedding too. We come home to find cotton ball size bits of fur all over the floor. The heck with mittens, I have probably vacuumed enough hair this year to fill a down comforter.

Mon, July 26, 2004 - 5:28 PMhang in there, i'm a dog groomer and trust me when i say a sheddin' blade and alittle patience really goes a long way. look for one in your local independently owned grooming shop or supply store. even a horse supply store would have a nice big one for you. good luck

Fri, July 30, 2004 - 2:08 PMDid you ever see that weird realtiy show in animal planet about people who hung out at the dog park in NYC? This one guy brought in his dog's fur to make yarn and knit a cap out of it, so you know, it can be done and you wouldn't be the first!
My favorite and when I have lip balm on and I pick up my cat and then my entire face is covered in fur and most of it is sticking to my lips. I have swallowed so much cat hair I can't believe I don't cough up furballs, too! -

Re: Does it ever stop?
Fri, July 30, 2004 - 10:04 PMWhat i don't understand is how i can sweep up a whole dustpan full of hair. But the dog isn't bald. How can this be? They should have no hair left on their body the way they shed.
Hello by the way. I'm new here. May i suggest putting the pet in a rubber suit? -

Sat, July 31, 2004 - 7:22 AMLOL. Gotta agree with you there, on both the wonderment about why my dog is not bald and the thought of a rubber suit. Since I love my doggy but am allergic to him, that might work. LOL. ;-)
My sister-in-law owned a golden retriever and we have a lab. We used to commiserate that we could make three or four more dogs between us from the hair collected in say about a month's time. -

Re: Does it ever stop?
Sat, July 31, 2004 - 7:33 AMI met an irish lady at the dog park who collects her dogs hair. She then weaves it and knits hats and mittens for her grandkids. -

Re: Does it ever stop?
Fri, August 20, 2004 - 9:56 AMThanks Tonia. I'm gonna try that shedding blade thing. It's a little more under control now that her under coat has blown out but she's still like the Energizer Bunny of shedding. -

Re: Does it ever stop?
Thu, August 26, 2004 - 10:55 AMHas anyone found a good solution for heavy shedding & carpets?
My dog sheds non stop, black fur, and it's nearly impossible to get up!! -

Re: Does it ever stop?
Fri, August 27, 2004 - 12:33 AMmy mom has this ...tool. broom type handle with a rubber sweeper head. short rubber finger type edge. It worked great on her wood floors and linoleum and I took her spare home and it worked well on not just carpet but also apolstry. Also for apolstry I use one of those rubber grooming "brushes" for dogs with short hair and it rolls off much better than any vacuum, brush or sticky roller do-hickeys. She got these at the fair (she lives in Fresno) but it looks like this:
